Wing mirror smashed in hit and run

Hi!

I am new to the forum so hello!!
I usually leave the car things to my husband but this happened on my watch and he’s busy with work so I’m trying to take charge!

Outside my son’s school yesterday some wonderful person took the mirror off the driver side and drove off. :x

It’s the camera mirror and is now hanging by the cable. The mirror and camera itself are fine I think. The camera still works but the plastic arm that then moulds into the side panel on the car itself has snapped. I’ve attached a photo.

Am I looking at a whole new mirror or can I just get the arm and moulding replaced? I wanted to ask here first as feel I need a heads up before I get sucked into paying for something that we might be able to sort cheaper ourselves.

Anyone had any experience of this?

Thanks so much in advance. I really appreciate any help or advice.

What an absolute swine !

With the Pulsar not being a massive seller (so far) it might take some searching, but I think I'd try looking on car dismantler's websites as I can only imagine how much Nissan would want - but I'd bet you'd be parting with at least one arm and a leg !

If it was me, and I have ZERO technical knowledge, I think for now I'd try and tape it up to stop it swinging about and risk damage to the wiring.

Yes. I am fuming to say the least.

Having spoken to our local and trusted garage and also directly to Nissan today, it seems the only fix is a complete replacement of the whole thing. So frustrating when it all actually still works! Quote is about £350. To be honest it’s less than I expected but still hurts....a lot!

Is there any CCTV around the school? It might be worth asking.

^^ going through insurance, even though its not your fault will probably result in your premiums increasing beyond the value of this fix... It sucks but its reality!

Your problem here is the unit ha fully snapped off. Quite some effort really! Even a pigeon hitting mine at 70 on the motorway wasnt enough to wipe it out!

Have a gander on ebay, I did see a few knocking around on there a few months back!

You are best for now though taking the mirror off. Its only going to cause further damage to your car if you leave it hanging like that!

Looking at your picture,it is the door moulding that has been damaged, can't see why you would have buy the moulding and a mirror assembly.Of course to every down there is an up,if you have to buy both items because Nissan won't supply the moulding on it's own you can offset the cost by selling of your mirror assembly, just my take on the situation!!
