Pulsar Wet Rear Passenger Footwell Help Please.

Hello everyone. I'm sorry to become a new member and ask for assistance straight away. I'm a regular contributor on PH but I need some more specific help please.

I have a 2015 Pulsar 1.6 turbo petrol. Yesterday my son climbed out of his seat without his shoes on a said his foot was wet. Low and behold the rear footwell had about a litre of water in it. I used the wet and dry vac to collect all this water and a warm air blaster to dry it out. I wondered if my son had left the rear window down a bit, but the next day after an hour in the car a few puddles and light rain the rear is wet again.

Only the rear is wet and it seems to be wettist in the middle of the footwell slightly towards the back of the foltwell, not under the front seat . Any suggestions on what the fix could be. I have a pentagon used warranty but would appreciate any suggestions that I might be able to fix myself , such as clogged drains or air conditioning pipes etc.

This is has really upset my as my wife's lovely 2014 golf convertible is currently has the carpets up and the rear seats out due to wet rear footwells.

Thank you.

My 1.6 is also leaking but only on the drivers side!
Trying to pin it down for the last few days now and leaning towards the inner seal, only seems to be while on the move for me..

I'll let you know if I manage to track it down!
Quick tip get some cat litter and a pair of tights, cut the tights and fill them so you have two tubes of cat litter, if you can pull up your carpet slightly and get them under neath. Rear foot well is actually very deep with polystyrene insulation under the carpet, alot of water can be held around the polystyrene.

Keep me updated, I'll do the same!

Hello there. Thank you for your reply.

I will certainly keep you up dated of anything. I too think that it is being blasted in whilst driving. Every other day that the car is used I am vacuuming the footwell in an effort to keep it from getting smelly.

I think my issue relates to the front passenger door, we haven't had the car long so I wasn't sure what was normal sounds. The wind noise is definitely louder on the passenger side and the door sounds a little more clunky when it's closed than the drivers so in thinking front seals or misaligned. I am going to get in touch with pentagon nissan after the holiday season and see if their used warranty will help with this. I will add to the thread what is done to fix it.

Thanks for the suggestion about drying out the insulation, I'm going to leave it all in place until the warranty says yes or no , I don't want them to blame me , also my wife's car ( 2014 golf convertible ) also has water in the rear footwells only coming in whilst driving ( although much worse) and has the rear seats out and carpets up so I can't dismantle another car. I have lost enthusiasm for leak hunting already. 😁

Best wishes.

Nick

Hello.

We have been much the same weather wise. The occasional bit of rain hasn't caused an issue.

We had two nights really heavy rain just recently and the car was dry until driven. The footwell then felt very slightly damp. Nothing like it was before. I'm looking at it daily and if gets bad I think I'll try to book it in with the dealer and then report back on any fixes to you.

My car time had to be spent on my wife's car as the leak was worse.

Cheers buddy, my cars absolutely bone dry since I dried it out but I'll definitely give you when I have one.
Really feel for you with your wife's car, all the best with both cars pal looks like we're both having a spot of bad luck.. albeit very strange with the pulsars lol.

All the best

Hey dude, not sure if you got this sorted but just check under your your dash, where the pedals are, try and squeeze the insulation to check for damp, on both sides

It seems (fingers crossed) my cars stayed dry since having the windscreen resealed

Hello again!

Thank you for your replies. I'm glad you have your car sorted. I will have a check around the pedals later today just to be safe.

The Pulsar is dry whenever I check it these days. I think the water only ever got in when we went through massive puddles or minor floods if you prefer so I haven't been too worried about it.

My repairs to my wife's car were also successful and I added the fixes to the thread which as helped a couple of other people get their cars dry.

Just wondered if you ever experience any hesitation with the motor in your car ? I mean where you use full throttle and nothing happens for a second other than a slight change in engine sound.

Hope your alright with all this mess the world is in. Nick

That's really good to hear mate, mine has stayed dry since and I give it a good blast when i wash it to make sure theres no leaks!

There has been a couple of pulsars come into where I work with the same leak mine had, some the insulation above the carpet/pedals where mouldy :o

Glad you got the mrs car sorted too!

I do definitely feel hesitation, especially at lower RPM I'm glad you mentioned it too so I'm not the only one! Do you feel it when for example you're driving 'hard' change gears and get back on the throttle? Like it feels like it should be pulling much harder then gets back on boost and feels ok? I've got a good feeling its turbo lag and a descent remap could solve it, I've got future intentions of doing so as soon as I can so I'll let you know how it is.

You too mate, stay safe!

Aaron

Hello again.

Thanks for your reply again. Hope your alright.

Still dry and no fusty smells so I guess I got off lightly. No small floods or large puddles for the pulsar if possible!

Thanks for the comments about the hesitation. That sounds exactly the same. It's infrequent and seems to happen less when run on quality fuel. Good suggestion regarding the remap. I had my previous family car ( Skoda superb turbo petrol )remapped from 150hp to 210hp by shark performance without issue and ran perfectly for 4 years.

It doesn't seem to cause too much of an issue really I just wondered if it had potential to get worse and wanted to think about the issue before warranty runs out. I must say though the current performance is more than adequate for a family car so remapping this one wasn't in my agenda .

The battery gave up during lock down but the swap was easy and without issue. I was concerned that it might need coding to the car or a warning light reset but no nothing thankfully. Picked up a 77ah EFB 096 battery from alpha batteries for 85 quid delivered with a 3 year warranty, so that was better than I thought.

The only irritation with the car is the costly tyre size. My wife's has 225 40 18 and Uniroyal rainsport 5 were 60 quid each. Almost 100 for pulsar size annoyingly so I have gone with kumho on a special offer.

Thanks for the update. Nick
