X-tronic owner, read this!! Gearbox cooler cleaning ??

In the left front wheelhouse, just behind the drl/fog light, there is a ventilation grid. Behind this grid there is a tiny air cooler placed. Is this the cooler for the X-tronic gearbox?? If so, the problem is.... it is totaly coverered with mud from the front wheel. This means that the gearbox cooling is reduced and my question is... how does this effect the lifetime of the gearbox? This cooler needs regular cleaning to work properly!!! Would be interesting if someone from Nissan could comment the "clever" mounting location!!
